FOND DU LAC, Wis. – It look a little longer, but the Falcons opened the 2020-21 season with a victory at Marian on Wednesday night. The Falcons secured a 3-2 victory to start the year at 1-0-0.
The Falcons started off hot on Wednesday night with a goal from sophomore Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the fifth minute.
Senior Paul Seydel (Portland, Ore.) found the back of the net nine minutes later on a penalty kick.
The Black and Blue cut into the lead with a goal in the 19th minute, but the Falcons took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Sabres tied the game halfway through the second half to force overtime.
Sophomore Gilberto Gomez (Zion, Ill.) won the game in the 98th minute off a pass from Ivan Cuellar.
Junior Matthew Klug (Plymouth, Wis.) earned the victory with two saves on the cold, rainy night.
The Falcons held a 21-10 shots advantage against the Sabres. Ivan Cuellar led the flock with 10 shots.
CUW looks to keep the momentum going into Sunday at Edgewood.
