MEQUON, Wis. - The Falcons came in hot in the first set and put up the first point on the board to start the game with a kill from freshman Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) to set the tone for the night.
The Blue and White went on a streak of points with a kill from senior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.), a service ace from Althoff, a kill from junior Cody Sciabica (Henderson, Nev.), an attack error from IIT, a service ace from senior Zach Smith (Massillon, Ohio), and a kill by Herman to extend the lead in the first set.
The Falcons would win the first set 25-20.
In the second set, the Falcons would put up the first four points on the board with a kill from sophomore Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.), two attack errors by IIT, and a kill from Herman.
The Scarlet Hawks would put up three point before Concordia would go on another streak of points.
The Falcons took the second set 26-24.
The 18 kills in the set are a program record.
In the third set, IIT started with the lead and put up three points before Herman's kill to get CUW on the board.
The third set would be a close one for the Falcons, but they would ultimately put the game in the bag with a 25-21 win to finish the game.
"I am really proud with how our guys responded tonight," said head coach Curtis Madson. "We had to battle tonight, and we did. Our playoffs have started and we are playing for a spot in the NACC Tournament and tonight was a good start."
Freshman Nathan Petrus tied the school record for 33 assists in a three-set match.
Herman tallied 20 kills for the Falcons, with Althoff coming right behind him at 12 kills.
Smith and Althoff would have two service aces for the Falcons.
Concordia looks to secure another win at Benedictine on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 PM.
