SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – For the second-straight NACC season, the Falcon have claimed the crown. The Falcons are queens of the North Division and won the title outright with a pair of 2-1 and 6-1 victories on Friday. CUW leads the NACC with a record of 17-1 and an overall record of 27-5.
The Falcons found their way onto the scoreboard in the first inning. Sophomore Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) was able to get freshman Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) across home plate.
In the fifth inning, senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) scored Madison Wheat on a double that hit the left-field fence.
The Muskies were able to get a run in the sixth inning, but the CUW defense secured the victory.
Junior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) broke the school record for strikeouts in a single season with 13 strikeouts in the victory. She only allowed two hits in her 10th victory of the season.
Kelsey Bollon had three of the eight hits for Concordia in game one.
The Falcon jumped on the Muskies early in game two.
Claudia Utz singled to left field in the first inning to score Sydney Erdmann.
Junior Kristen Fontana (Hickory Hills, Ill.) shot a blast to short stop in the first inning that safely crossed Kelsey Bollon across home plate.
In the second inning, Madison Wheat had a sacrifice fly to left field to score junior Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.).
CUW added three more runs to the scoreboard in the third inning,
Sophomore Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) landed a ball to center field to send Claudia Utz home. Kristen Fontana scored on a bunt single by Krystal Cortes and sophomore Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) scored the final Falcon run of the day with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Gabbi Gaziano.
Junior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) earned her 12 victory of the year and struck out eight batters. Junior Alyssa Vilkoski reeled in the Muskies in the final inning in the circle.
The Falcons host the Muskies on Sunday in the regular season finale.
