League of Legends Season Recap

By Erik Arvis

MEQUON, Wis. - With the season officially over, the CUW Esports League of Legends team will be able to look back at this season and learn a lot. Despite the learning lessons to be had, they went 6-2 in the NECC, which unfortunately ended in a first-round loss in the playoffs. This was the first season for the CUW League of Legends (LoL), so the season served as an amazing foundation for future seasons.
As their debut season, this performance was an incredibly important semester for the team as it was their debut season.
The League of Legends team is led by Captains Trevor Krentz and Jonah Fowle who play on the team with Hanbyul Jeong, Andre Stewart, Joseph Kharnus, and Jay Nakama. Although some last-minute roster changes affected the team's performance in the playoffs, "The improvement we had over the course of the semester was great. We are planning on starting the semester on a fresh slate" says Captain Krentz. The team grew stronger as the season progressed, so moving forward, the teams' main focus is synergy and more strategic planning when they come back to compete this January.
Although the lineup changes made the season more hectic than it should be, the team was able to win throughout and eventually define the starting lineup by the end of season playoffs. "Even though they lost a close quarterfinal battle, being able to organize and finalize the team roster is exciting when considering the upcoming spring season," said Head Coach Lewis Smith. He added that now that the players and their positions have been decided, they can move past this season's team experimentation and focus on winning.
While the season may not have ended how the League of Legends team had hoped for, this was only the first semester playing together, and they were able to learn, grow, and win throughout the season. There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming spring season competing in both the NECC and Riot leagues!
