IOWA CITY, Iowa - The CUW ACHA team traveled to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in a weekend matchup on the road.
The Blue and White looked to start the weekend 1-0 for the first time on the road this season.
The flock started the scoring in the third minute off the stick of senior Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.). Gregor was assisted by junior Ian Malcolmson (Waukesha, Wis.).
The Hawkeyes took the lead with the game-tying goal later in the first period and the go-ahead goal in the second.
The Falcons trailed 1-2 heading into the final frame.
Senior Sam Weiss (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) netted the game-tying goal for the Blue and White. Malcolmson recorded his second assist on the short-handed goal.
A late tripping call on senior Mack Willy (Tacoma, Wash.) sent a Falcon to the box, which allowed the Hawkeyes to net the game-winning goal on the powerplay.
The Falcons spent a total of 36 minutes in the box on seven infractions.
Willy recorded 40 saves in his 58:23 on the ice.
The Falcons look to bounce back in game two of the matchup on Saturday evening.
