MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team took on another week of heated competition this week with a multitude of titles starting their Spring seasons.
The first title to kick off their Spring season was the Rocket League team. In their META matchup with Virginia Tech, the squad took their first win by forfeit. On Tuesday in their third week of NECC competition, the Rocket League team took on newly minted Concordia St. Paul. The Falcons took the 3-0 sweep with game scores of 7-1, 6-1, and 3-2.
Senior Austin Esterly (Lombard, Ill.) led the Falcon offense with 10 goals and four assists. He also added three saves to his line with 11 shots.
On Thursday, the Falcons took on UW-Milwaukee in a grind of a matchup. The Falcons were defeated in the first game by a score of 0-2 but snapped back in the second with a 4-2 victory. UW came back with a 5-2 victory over the Falcons. The Blue and White wouldn't go down without a fight and took the fourth game with a score of 6-2. In the final, do or die game, the Falcons were defeated by a score of 0-5.
The Call of Duty (CoD) team took on DePaul in week six of the College CoD League. The Falcons improved to 6-5 on the season with a 3-0 sweep over DePaul. The Falcons took the games with scores of 250-211 on the hardpoint map, 6-5 on the search and destroy map, and 3-0 on the control map. The Falcons were led by sophomore Sean Hofstetter (Columbia, Ill.) with 77 eliminations and 2:12 hill time.
The Valorant team took on Purdue on Monday in the NECC week three and came out victorious. The Falcons took the 2-1 to claim their first victory of the Spring season. In a 13-11, 6-13, and 14-12 matchup, the Falcons took a game three, overtime win.
They were led by freshman Josh Imlah (Lombard, Ill.) with 64 eliminations and 28 assists.
The Smash teams made their debut this week with a pair of defeats for both the Smash one and Smash two teams. In the Smash two matchup with Sacred Heart, the Falcons ate a 0-2 defeat with game scores of 0-5 and 0-2. In the Smash one battle with Salisbury University, the Falcons snagged a second-game victory but were defeated in the win-or-go-home, third game. The game scores were 0-3, 1-0, and 0-2.
In their NECC League matchup, the Rainbow 6 Siege team took on Murray State. The Falcons came into the matchup 2-0 on the season but suffered their first defeat of the Spring. Both matchups were close with a pair of 7-8 defeats.
The College Halo League saw a pair of Falcon defeats at the hands of Alma and Ohio State. In the Alma matchup, the Falcons snuck a second-game victory with a score of 50-41 in Slayer, but fell short in the capture the flag, oddball, and stronghold game modes with scores of 1-2, 0-2, and 106-250 respectively. In their matchup with Ohio State, the Falcons were swept at 0-3 with scores of 1-2 in oddball, 41-50 in Slayer, and 246-250 in Strongholds. The newly minted Halo team fell to 1-5 on the season. Head Coach Lewis Smith had this to say after the defeat, "This was our best night of the season, and it resulted in an extra-tight series. Good step in the right direction for us."
The Overwatch team took on Eau Claire in their NECC week three matchup. The Falcons took the 3-0 matchup sweep and improved to 3-0 in the Spring.
