Women's Volleyball Sweeps Alverno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The CUW women's volleyball team remained unbeaten within the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a 3-0 victory at Alverno. The Falcons won 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 to improve to 7-5 and 2-0 in the NACC.

The Inferno came out hot on Tuesday and opened the match on a 6-1 run. The Falcons took the lead for good at 19-18 with a kill from freshman Mickenzi Benter (Appleton, Wis.). A kill from senior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) claimed the set at 25-22.

The Falcons fielded a new lineup in the second set and never trailed. The Falcons were led by freshman Jaydin Vosters (Neenah, Wis.) and senior Hannah Himmelman (Geneseo, Ill.) with four kills in the set.

The serve of freshman Stella Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) extinguished the Inferno in the third set on Tuesday and pushed the CUW lead up to 4-2 and 16-11. A 4-1 run ended the match, capped off by a kill from freshman Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).

The Falcons fielded a balanced attack in the victory. Mickenzi Benter, Jenna Chaussee and Stella Zarling all had five kills. Chaussee also led the birds with 10 digs.

Hannah Himmelman hit .800 on the match with four kills.

Freshman Izzy Sternig (West Bend, Wis.) and Mickenzi Benter both had nine assists in the victory. Sternig also recorded her first collegiate kill on the evening.

The Falcons fly to Stevens Point on Saturday and will take on the No. 12 ranked Pointers and Wisconsin – River Falls.
