LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Round one of the Border Battle Cup went to the Foresters on Friday evening. Lake Forest won the first leg of the weekend with a 5-1 victory. The loss sends CUW to 9-5-1 on the year and to 4-3-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association
The Foresters struck first on a breakaway as the skater snuck past the defense and tossed the puck into the back of the net.
Senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) tied the game after she stole back the puck and scored from the far circle.
The Foresters started the second-period scoring when they snuck the puck past the crease on a rebound.
The Red and White took control of the game with three goals to start the third period.
Lake Forest held a 40-33 advantage in shots on Friday.
Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) collected 35 saves against the Foresters.
Emily Reimche led the Concordia attack with six shots.
Sophomore Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) won 19 of her 28 faceoffs.
The Falcons look to take the Border Battle Cup on Saturday at home against the Forester.
