Falcons Fall Short in NACC Semifinals

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The 2022-23 season came to an end for the Falcons on Thursday night in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals. The Falcons fought hard for 40 minutes against the Warriors but could not break through.

The Falcons held an early lead on Thursday night. A three-point basket from freshman Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) put the Falcons up 7-4 and a layup from Booth put the Falcons up 10-6.

In the final three minutes of the first quarter, the Warriors closed the quarter on a 12-0 run to lead 22-12 heading into the second quarter.

The birds responded with a 5-0 to start the second quarter with a three-point basket from Ava Booth and a pair of free throws from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.).

The Green and White used an 8-0 run over the next seven minutes to add to the lead and led at halftime, 30-18.

The Falcons cut into the WLC lead in the third quarter. A three-point basket from junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) cut the deficit to seven points at 32-25. The Warriors took a 45-36 lead into the final frame.

A three-point basket from senior Aubrey Buchholtz (Seymore, Wis.) trimmed the score to 49-42, but that is the closest CUW could get the rest of the evening.

Emily Hafemann stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) led the flock with 10 rebounds.
