CHICAGO, Ill. – The CUW men's volleyball team improved to 5-6 on the season with a five-set victory over the Vikings of North Park.
The Falcons came out on a heater with a 25-13 victory in the first set. The Blue and White scored 22 of their 25 points in the first set with 16 kills that saw junior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) lead the team with five. No Falcon hit below .270 in the set with a .452 team-hitting percentage and only two errors.
The Vikings bounced back with a set-two victory which saw a final score of 25-20 in favor of the home team.
The Blue and White gifted the Vikings with 15 errors in the set.
Set three fell the way of the birds with a score of 25-22. Senior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) led the flock with five kills on five attempts hitting 1.000.
With their backs against the wall, the Vikings came away with a set-four victory at 25-22. Both offenses were red hot with the Falcons hitting .414 and the Vikings hitting .444. North Park scored 21 of their 25 points in the set to lift themselves over the Blue and White.
The teams headed into the win or go home, fifth set with a vengeance. The Blue and White stayed red hot and hit .471 to close out the match with a 15-10 final set score and a 3-2 match score.
Herman led all Falcons with 13 kills. He added 10 digs for another double-double on the season.
The Falcon middles were feasting in Chicago with a combined 23 kills on 29 attempts and only two errors.
Sophomore Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) led the duo with 12 kills. He hit .857 on the afternoon and added five digs and six total blocks which led the squad.
Ellingham recorded 11 kills and hit .600. He recorded two service aces and two total blocks as well.
Sophomore Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) recorded 48 assists and 11 digs for the other Falcon double-double of the afternoon.
Freshman Parker Pearson (Keller, Texas) recorded a match-high 16 digs.
The Falcons fly home for faculty and staff appreciation night against Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday.
