PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The CUW men's volleyball team retained the Highway 57 Cup with a three-set sweep of the Lakeland Muskies on Wednesday night.
The Blue and White didn't waste their time up North with final set scores of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-14.
The first set saw a four-point and a three-point run for the Falcons which saw three kills from freshman Ben Kayser (Milwaukee, Wis.) in those two runs combined. A service error hooked the Muskies in the first set.
The Blue and White took firm control of the second set with multiple, long runs. Sophomore Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) recorded back-to-back kills early in the second set to give the Blue and White a 10-7 lead. A five-point run late in the second set saw a pair of Musky errors as well as a kill from freshman Chase Ammons (Elm Grove, Wis.) and a service ace from freshman Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.). A Kayser kill ended the second set.
Back-to-back service aces from junior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) and a kill from senior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) gave the Falcons the 10-6 lead early in the final frame.
Kayser finished the match with a service ace.
During the match, sophomore Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) broke not one, but two individual records.
His one solo block and five assist blocks broke the single-season records in total blocks and assist blocks.
Kayser led the Blue and White with 14 kills with a .481 hitting percentage. He added four digs and a service ace.
Kebisek dished out 27 assists.
The Falcons are back in action against Illinois Tech on Friday in their second match of three this week.
