Grizzlies Get Away From Women's Lacrosse

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team wrapped up the first weekend of the young season on Saturday at Franklin. The Grizzlies defended their home turf with an 11-8 victory to send the Falcons to 1-1.

Franklin took a 3-0 lead to start the contest on Saturday.

Junior Eliana Fuchs (Brookfield, Wis.) danced through the defense and crashed the net for the first Falcon goal of the game.

Franklin held a 3-1 lead heading to the second quarter

The Grizzlies started the scoring in the second quarter with two goals in the first six minutes.

The Falcons stormed down the field after the last Franklin goal and sophomore Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) snuck the ball past the keeper off a pass from sophomore Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.) to send the teams into halftime at 5-2.

Junior Anna Gong (Phoenix Ariz.) juked the defender out of her shoe and started the scoring in the third quarter.

The Blue and Yellow responded with two-straight goals.

The Falcons stormed down the field and cut into the Franklin lead, but the goal was called off.

A sharp-angled shot from Eliana Fuchs did count and Falcons cut the deficit to 7-4.

Junior Olivia Niego (La Grange, Ill.) split a pair of defenders and scored with 1:35 left to end the third-quarter scoring.

Franklin started the fourth quarter with a free-position goal.

The Falcons responded back with a march down the field with a great pass from senior Grace Wilshire (Pittsburg, Pa.) found Kami McCardle in front of the net and the Falcons trimmed the deficit to 6-8.

Franklin scored the next two goals to take a four-goal lead, but the Falcons continued to fight.

Eliana Fuchs scored on two free position shots to close the Concordia scoring in Indiana.

The Falcons held a slim 27-26 advantage in shots on Saturday.

Eliana Fuchs led the attack with nine shots and three draw controls.

Sophomore Sydney Dyba (Crown Point, Ind.)  ended the day in her home state with 12 saves and five ground balls.

The Falcons caused 17 turnovers, led by Ava Karlov and Kami McCardle with three.

The Blue and White close the first road trip of the season on Wednesday at Carthage.
