Women's Hockey Surges Past the Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team continued its winning streak in Iowa on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons collected their seventh victory of the year with a 5-2 victory. The Blue and White improved to 7-8-0 on the year and 5-5-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Spartans started the Sunday by scoring a power-play goal in the first two minutes of the game.

The Falcons responded with a goal, five minutes later. Freshman Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove, Minn.) tapped in a rebound at the far post off a shot from freshman Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

Dubuque reclaimed the lead 72 seconds into the second period with a shorthanded goal.

CUW responded at the 4:19 mark of the period when junior Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) tied the game 72 seconds into the second period skated the puck across the ice, rang the puck off the post and into the net for a short-handed goal.

Four minutes later, sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead with a top-shelf goal from the slot off a pass from Elle Tuccitto and a secondary assist from sophomore Hailey Calliguri (Lonsdale, Minn.) for her first assist of the year.

Sophomore Charlotte Toor (Hartland, Mich.) started the third period scoring on the power play as she skated past the defender and found the back of the net.

Toor struck again two minutes later when she snuck the puck past the keeper off a pass from Brooke Gibson after senior Amanda Carney (Ottawa, Ont.) started the attack.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) collected 12 saves in the victory.

Mackaylan McGown dominated the faceoff circle and won 12 of her 13 faceoff appearances.

The Falcons had a 38-14 advantage in shots on Sunday. Charlotte Toor led the attack with eight shots.

Concordia closes the Iowa road trip on Monday with a makeup of Friday's postponed contest. The game will not count towards the conference standings.
