Falcons Post a Record-Breaking Win Over Alverno

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcon faithful went home happy on Thursday night. The Falcons cruised to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-7 victory over Alverno. The Falcons improve to 9-9 on the season and soar to 4-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Concordia Wisconsin never trailed on Thursday night.

The serve of freshman McKenna Oetzman (Reedsburg, Wis.) helped the Falcons jump out to a 6-0 lead. A pair of service aces from junior Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.) gave the Falcons the biggest lead of the set at 24-7. The Blue and White claimed the set at 25-9 on a bad set. Sophomore Skylar Kumprey (New Berlin, Wis.) had five kills on six attacks in the first set. The first set was the first time this season that the Falcons have held a team under 10 points.

The Falcons soared out to another big lead in the second set. A service ace from sophomore Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 9-2 lead. Alverno trimmed the deficit to seven twice, but that is the closest the Inferno got. A service error ended the set at 25-10.

It was all Concordia in the third set. The serve of Mckenna Oetzman, Skyler Kumprey, junior Izzy Lutz (West Bend, Wis.), Emily Dickmann and Abby Proefrock gave Alverno issues in the set. A kill from junior Mickenzi Benter (De Pere, Wis.) ended the match at 25-7. Abby Proefrock and Emily Dickmann landed two service aces. Junior Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was a perfect five-for-five in attacks in the third set.

Concordia Wisconsin broke the program with a 0.587 hitting percentage in the victory with 46 kills on 70 attacks and only six errors. Emily Dickmann, junior Ellie Juergensen (Cedarburg, Wis.) and senior Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) all had perfect hitting nights. The previous record was 0.494 against Concordia Chicago on Oct. 3, 2014.

Paige Stickney burned the Inferno with 12 kills on 15 attacks and Skylar Kumprey finished with 10 kills on a 0.500 percentage.

In total, 10 Falcons recorded a kill against Alverno.

McKenna Oetzman fed the Concordia attack with 22 assists, with Emily Dickmann adding 11 assists.

The Concordia serve torched Alverno with 12 service aces. Abby Proefrock led the match with four, while Dickmann had three and Oetzman finished with two.

The Falcons had four blocks in the victory with Paige Stickney finishing with three and senior Anna Bohrer (Verona, Wis.) with two.

The Birds dug up 29 balls and only allowed eight kills. Mckenna Oetzman and Izzy Lutz led the contest with six digs each.

The Falcons have won three-straight matches which is the longest streak of the season.

The 26 points allowed are the fewest since the 25-9, 25-6, 25-8 victory over Finlandia on Sept. 21, 2019.

Concordia Wisconsin returns to action on Saturday when first-place Edgewood travels to the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
