Women's Volleyball Dominates Dominican on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – There was a lot to smile about for the women's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon when they celebrated senior day. The Falcons cruised to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-14 victory over Dominican to soar to 14-9 and 9-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings.

Senior Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) helped give the Falcons an early 6-0 lead with her serve to start the day. Junior Noelle Smith (Davenport, Iowa) ended the run with three straight kills. A service ace from sophomore Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 23-9 lead and a service error ended the set at 25-11. The Falcons hit 0.433 in the set with six birds recording a kill.

It was freshman McKenna Oetzman (Reedsburg, Wis.) that gave the Falcons an early 5-0 lead in the second set. The Stars fought back and trimmed the Concordia lead to 7-5 before the Falcons broke free with a 9-0 with the serve of Emily Dickmann. Senior Ellie Griffiths (Berrien Springs, Mich.) silenced the Stars in the second set at 25-10 with a kill. Eight different Falcons had a kill in the second set.

The Stars hung tough in the third set and tying set at one, two, three and four. A service ace from junior Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead and they never looked back. The biggest lead came at 22-12 and the match ended at 25-14 on an attacking error.

Paige Stickney led the match with eight kills against Dominican.

Emily Dickmann destroyed Dominican with 14 assists, 11 digs, three service aces and five kills on five attacks.

Sophomore Skylar Kumprey (New Berlin, Wis.) and Noelle Smith both secured seven kills, while Smith hit 0.600 on the afternoon.

McKenna Oetzman also finished with a double-double performance against Dominican with 11 assists and 10 digs.

Noelle Smith and Paige Stickney both recorded three blocks in the victory.

Junior Brianna Lundt (Brandon, Wis.) led the match with 13 digs.

The Falcons have now won eight matches in a row and remain perfect in October.

The first-place pack thinned on Saturday with St. Norbert sinking Aurora. The Falcons are now tied with Edgewood and St. Norbert in first place at 9-1.

The Falcons close the home portion of the regular season schedule on Thursday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
