RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes in a physical contest in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon. The Stars of Dominican advanced with a 3-2 victory.
Sunday saw the No. 2 seed Stars score first with a goal in the 19th minute.
Dominican held a 14-0 advantage in shots in the first half and junior Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) had seven saves in the first half.
The Stars scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Senior Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.) scored in the 66th minute with a ball to the far post off the corner from junior Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.).
Carson Kelly cut into the Dominican lead with a goal on a penalty kick in the 80th minute.
Enrique Torres had a save in the second half.
Dominican held a 21-6 advantage in shots and a 13-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Sunday marked the final match of the careers of the CUW senior class. The class had won 29 matches and one NACC Regular Season title.
Dominican advances to the NACC Tournament Semifinals and will host MSOE on Wednesday.
Concordia finishes the season with a 5-10-3 record.
