Falcons Feast in Thanksgiving Weekend Finale

PITTSTON, Pa. – There was a lot to be thankful for on Saturday afternoon for the Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team. The Falcons scored a season-high 10 goals in a 10-0 route of King's College. The Falcons soar to 9-2-0 on the year after the weekend sweep in Pennsylvania.

The Falcons started the scoring five minutes into the first period off a shot from the point from the captain senior Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ontario).

Two minutes later, sophomore Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) scored from just outside of the crease off passes from senior Savannah Hutchins (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and sophomore Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

With 11:06 left in the first period, freshman Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.) redirected a shot from sophomore Ava Litkey (Kenosha, Wis.) into the back of the net with senior Olivia Kurtz (Plainfield, Ill.) adding the secondary assist.

Nearly two minutes later, the captain Brooke Gibson lit the lamp again on the power play off a pass from freshman Scout Stromberg (Tomahawk, Wis.) and a faceoff win from Mackaylan McGown.

The power play blessed the Falcons again in the second period when Makayla Spejcher scored in front of the King's net off passes from Mackaylan McGown and Brooke Gibson.

Senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.) cut through the King's defense after Makayla Spejcher tossed the puck down the ice after freshman Sydney Fergusson (Bancroft, Ontario) found Spejcher.

Makayla Spejcher scored 88 seconds into the third period from behind the net off a rebound of her own shot.

Spejcher made the imaginary hats fly onto the ice with her second career hat trick when she poked in the puck off a shot from Mackaylan McGown as senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) added the secondary assist.

Senior Megan Vettraino (Howell, Mich.) joined the scoring off a rebound from a shot from Kayla Gomes and a secondary assist to freshman Sophia Whiteaker (Normal, Ill.).

Makayla Spejcher scored the 10th goal of the day when Brooke Gibson found her wide-open next to the net.

Sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) was perfect again on Saturday when she stopped all six of her shots. She has not allowed a goal in her last 114 minutes. Senior Cheree Peters (Vernon, British Columbia) stopped three shots in the third period.

The Falcons held a 57-9 advantage in shots on Saturday.

Makayla Spejcher finished with more shots than the Monarchs with 10 on the afternoon. The five points tied her career high when she scored four goals and an assist against Marian on November 18, 2022.

The 10 goals are the most for the Falcons since an 11-0 victory over Finlandia on Feb. 18, 2023.

The Falcons return to the nest for Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play on Friday against Dubuque.
