Women's Basketball Edged by Emerson in Overtime

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team closed action at the Cruzin' Classic on Friday afternoon. The Falcons fell short in overtime against Emerson, with the Lions improving to 8-4 with a 69-62 victory.

The Falcons controlled the contest for a majority of the first quarter.

A jump shot from senior Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) started the scoring on Friday evening.

A three-point basket from sophomore Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) elevated the CUW lead to 11-4 with 3:59 left in the quarter.

The Falcons closed the final minute of the first quarter with a 5-0 run that was capped off with a three-point basket from sophomore Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) that gave the Falcons a 16-5 lead after 10 minutes.

The biggest lead of the night came at 18-5 with 9:13 left in the second quarter after Andrea Butterbrodt sank a jump shot.

The Lions continued to fight and tied the game at 21 with 3:58 left in the first half. The Falcons responded with a 6-0 run, with senior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) scoring four of the points.

A layup from Aubrey DeBauch gave the Falcons a 29-28 lead at the halftime buzzer.

The Falcons pushed the lead up to 37-32 halfway through the third quarter with a layup from Gracie McNabb.

Emerson flipped the script and built a five-point lead of its own with 1:35 left in the third quarter.

CUW closed the quarter with a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to 44-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

The two schools exchanged the lead three times in the fourth quarter.

Junior Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) sank a three-point basket with 3:09 left in the contest to push the lead to 57-52.

The Lions closed the quarter on a 5-0 run and threatened to win in regulation, but Aubrey DeBauch stole the ball back with four seconds left to force overtime. Ava Booth scored 10 of CUW's 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Emerson connected on its first two shots of the overtime period to take a five-point lead.

Concordia cut the Emerson lead to three points twice, but that is the closest CUW would get.

Aubrey DeBauch led Concordia with 19 points on Friday night. DeBauch finished with a double-double effort with 12 rebounds against the Lions. She also had four of the 11 CUW assists.

Ava Booth ended with 13 points and Andrea Butterbrodt brought in 11 points.

CUW scored 22 points off turnovers and had 10 second-chance points.

Deidre Lassiter had a game-high five steals.

The Falcons will rest up and return to action in January at Dubuque.
