MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team closed its 2024 season with a win on Senior Day against the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. The 23-10 victory saw the squad end the campaign with wins in two of its final three games, in part to an effort that saw five Falcons score three or more goals.
The Falcons dominated the opening quarter of play, as six different scorers combined for eight goals. Sophomore Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) each potted a pair in the frame, while seniors Eliana Fuchs (Brookfield, Wis.), Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Savannah Schweiger (Eagle, Wis.), and junior Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) also contributed to the offensive effort.
Concordia expanded its lead to 12-3 in the second period's opening minutes, netting the quarter's opening four goals. Junior Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.) and freshman Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.) scored their first goals of the contest in the stretch, while Schweiger and Fuchs each tallied their second scores of the day. McCardle and Cardinale also added to their numbers, recording the Falcons' final two scores of the half.
Exiting the half, Concordia expanded its lead again in the third quarter. Schweiger picked up a pair of tallies in the frame, securing the first four-goal performance of her career. Also setting a personal milestone was Gong, who secured her second-consecutive three-goal game, the first such instance of her career. Fuchs took responsibility for the remaining goal of the quarter, which left the Falcons with a 19-9 advantage.
Concordia likewise increased its lead in the final 15 minutes of play, scoring four additional goals. Cardinale added a pair of goals to her performance to move her season total to 59, securing fifth place in the program's single-season scoring leaderboard. Mackrell and McCardle picked up the other two scores to close the game, the latter recording a career-high of 21 total goals in 2024.
Freshman goaltender Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) recorded four saves in the outing.
Concordia finishes the 2024 season with a 6-9 record and 2-4 mark in NACC play.
