SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team opened the 2024 campaign on Friday against Augustana and Hamline on Friday night. The Falcons fell 0-3 in the opening match to Augustana and rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Hamline.
Senior Anna Bohrer (Verona, Wis.) led the Concordia attack against Augustana with a career-best eight kills on 14 attacks.
Sophomore Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.) dished out 20 assists against the Vikings.
After hitting negative in the first two sets, CUW rebounded in the third set and pushed Augustana to 25-23.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead against the Pipers, with 25-23 and 25-22 victories in the first two sets. After Hamline fought back with a 25-21 victory in the third set, CUW closed the door at 25-20 in the fourth set.
Junior Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had a career-best 14 kills in the victory.
Emily Dickmann and freshman McKenna Oetzman (Reedsburg, Wis.) both had 15 assists.
The serve was lethal for the Falcons in the second match with Izzy Lutz and junior Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.) both landing three service aces.
McKenna Oetzman picked up a double-double performance with 14 digs, leading the team with junior Brianna Lundt (Brandon, Wis.).
Noelle Smith led the Birds with five blocks in the win.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday against Minnesota Morris and St. Catherine.
