GLENDALE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team retained the Oktoberfest Cup on Saturday night in front of a packed stands. The Falcons earned a 1-1 tie to move to 0-2-2 on the season.
The Pioneers had the first look of the night in the seventh minute with a shot that was saved by junior Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.).
Senior Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.) had the first look of the match for CUW with a header that just soared wide of the net.
Sophomore Vladimir Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a spin move and sent the ball just to the right of the net in the 21st minute.
Senior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) sent it just wide of the net in the 31st minute
In the 40th minute, Alishan Sharipov rang the ball off the crossbar.
The Falcons were able to break through moments later with the first collegiate goal from freshman Logan Walker (Hartland, Wis.) off an assist from senior Remy Stafford (Chicago, Ill.).
The Falcons held a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Falcons started the second frame with shots from junior Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and freshman Huba Hajdu (Las Vegas, Nev.).
After a bombardment of the CUW net, Carroll tied the game in the 77th minute.
Both teams dug in and did not allow a quality opportunity for the rest of the evening.
The Falcons retained the Oktoberfest Cup with the tie, after winning the cup last year.
Carroll held a 14-10 advantage in shots on Saturday. Logan Walker led the flock with three.
Jeremy Munoz had three saves in the tie.
The Falcons open NACC play on Wednesday at Benedictine.
