Men's Tennis Soars in ITA Regional Action

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's tennis team opened play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and at the Midwest Open on Friday. In total, seven Falcons competed against some of the best in the region on the day.

Two Falcons competed in the ITA Regional Singles Championships on Friday.

Freshman Hayden Latus (Waukesha, Wis.) defeated Dane Patten of St. Scholastica in the first round, 6-4, 6-4. He then fell to Aiden Klass of Grinnell, 7-5, 6-2.

Senior Landon Sather (Fort Wayne, Ind.) earned a first-round bye on Friday he then faced Karch Knoll of Grinnell in the second round with Knoll advancing, 6-2, 6-1.

In the ITA Midwest Regional Doubles Championships, Landon Sather and senior Joshua Klement (Muskego, Wis.) faced off against Zak Chaffey and Watson Sheard of Bethel in the first round and won 8-5.

Three Birds fought hard in the Midwest Open B Singles Championships. Freshman Ryan Blian (Greendale, Wis.) was beaten by Owen Skanse of Gustavus Adolphus, 6-4, 6-2. Joshua Klement fell to Ali Derbnami of Gustavus Adolphus, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Renan Revite (São Bernardo do campo, Brazil) fell short against Carson Haack of Northwestern, 5-7, 6-4, 12-10.

In the "C" Singles Championships, freshman James Murphy (Crawfordsville, Ind.) downed Gedeon Heins of Bethany Lutheran, 6-3, 6-3. He then shot down Daniel Meunier of St. Olaf, 6-3, 6-3. Murphy was then defeated by Horia Popa of Loras, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Benjamin Vorpahl (Sheboygan, Wis.) edged Erza Greenman of Bethany Lutheran, 7-3, 7-6 (6) before falling to Zach Dajani of Macalester, 6-2, 6-1.. Junior Dylan Nadolski (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was knocked out by Dawson Froemming of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 6-2, 7-5.

Concordia also fielded three Midwest Open "B" Doubles Championships teams.

Hayden Latus and Renan Revite downed Eli Olson and Gonzalo De Lorenzo of Gustavus Adolphus, 8-3.

Ryan Bilan and James Murphy bounced Lucas Healy and Sean Sonoiki of Loras, 8-3.

Dylan Nadolski and Benjamin Vorpahl topped Nico Greis and Drew Anderson of St. Scholastica, 8-3.

The ITA Midwest Regionals and the Midwest Open continue on Saturday.
