Concordia Wisconsin Cruises Past Concordia Moorhead

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team opened the Mabel Lee Invite on Friday night at Coe College. The Falcons reigned supreme in a battle of Concordias against Concordia Moorhead. The Blue and White improved to 3-2 on the year with a 25-11, 25-19, 25-22 victory.

It was all Falcons in the first set on Friday night. The serve of senior Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) helped elevate the Falcons to an early 5-1 lead. The biggest lead of the set came at 23-8 with a service ace from junior Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.). A kill from Abby Proefrock ended the set at 25-11. Junior Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was a perfect four-for-four on attack in the first set.

The Cobbers collected their first lead of the match at 8-7 in the second set. The Falcons quickly flipped the set and won the next four points to claim a 12-9 lead. A 4-0 run behind the serve of Emma Essex pushed CUW to a 16-10 lead. The Cobbers clipped the lead to two points at 18-16 and 19-17, but the Falcons surged and closed the set at 25-19 with a kill from junior Noelle Smith (Davenport, Iowa).

Concordia Moorhead built its biggest lead of the match in the third set at 9-5. The Falcons stormed back and reclaimed the lead at 15-14 with a service ace from Emma Essex. The Cobbers built a 21-18 lead late in the set, but the Falcons used a 5-0 run to take the lead back for the rest of the night. A kill from freshman Kayla Mulder (Whitehall, Mich.) ended the match at 25-22.

Paige Stickney, Noelle Smith and Kayla Mulder all finished with eight kills to lead the match.

The 20 assists from freshman McKenna Oetzman (Reedsburg, Wis. led the contest with sophomore Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.) finishing with 13.

The Birds landed eight service aces, and Abby Proefrock produced four of the eight.

Sophomore Skylar Kumprey (New Berlin, Wis.) recorded a match-high 10 digs in the victory.

The Falcons will take on Wisconsin-Platteville and Coe on Saturday in Iowa.
