MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team beat Benedictine on Saturday afternoon in front of the Falcon faithful inside the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse. The Falcons picked up a 72-65 victory to improve to 6-7 on the year and 4-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The Blue and White have now won six of their last seven games.

The Falcons used a 7-0 run to take an early lead against the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

After Benedictine, tied the game at seven, junior Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) scored the next six points of the contest.

Logan Landers and senior Jonah Jurss (Sheboygan, Wis.) drained a pair of three-point baskets and a jump shot from sophomore Matt Merlo (Random Lake, Wis.) elevated the CUW lead to 23-10.

The biggest lead of the day came at the 5:05 mark of the first half after Matt Merlo stole the ball and landed an easy layup to put the Falcons up, 34-16.

The Eagles ended the final five minutes of the first half on an 11-5 run to trail 39-27 at halftime.

Matt Merlo gave the Falcons their biggest lead of the second half with a dunk at 17:45 to put the Falcons up 44-29.

The Eagles continued to chip away at the CUW lead and cut the Concordia lead to 59-56.

But the CUW guard duo of senior Zach Leahy (West Dundee, Ill.) and Jonah Jurss shut down the Eagles offense late.

The Falcons made their free throws late to preserve the victory.

Matt Merlo and Logan Landers both had 16 points in the victory. Landers landed another double-double performance with 12 rebounds.

Sophomore Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) had 15 points and nine assists.

The Falcons look to continue their winning streak on Wednesday against St. Norbert.
