MEQUON, Wis. - Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center saw a highly anticipated showdown between the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team and the St. Norbert Green Knights. Both teams entered the contest with perfect 8-0-0 conference records, sitting near the top of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) standings.
However, it was the visiting Green Knights who broke the Falcons' program-best 10-game win streak, earning a 3-0 victory. The loss dropped CUW to 13-3-0 on the season and marked their first defeat since November 12, 2024.
St. Norbert came out strong, dominating the first period with two unanswered goals and limiting CUW to just a handful of scoring chances. Senior goaltender Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) was busy early, making several key saves and finishing the frame with 13 stops.
After the intermission, the Falcons began to find their offensive rhythm, firing 10 shots on goal in the second period—an improvement over the two they managed in the first. Despite their increased pressure, CUW was unable to crack the St. Norbert defense.
The Green Knights would extend their lead midway through the second period with a power-play goal, making it 3-0 and leaving CUW with an uphill battle for the remainder of the game.
Senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) led the Falcons with nine shots on goal, while sophomore Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove, Minn.) was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 18 of 24 draws.
In goal, McCardle finished with 27 saves, keeping her team in the game despite the deficit.
The Falcons will look to rebound and even the weekend series tomorrow at St. Norbert.
