MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team fell 3-0 to the nationally-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert College on Saturday, dropping their record to 10-7-0 overall and 5-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.
The first two periods were a defensive battle, with neither team finding the back of the net. Junior goalie Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) delivered an outstanding performance, keeping the Green Knights at bay despite St. Norbert controlling possession and outshooting the Falcons by a wide margin.
However, the third period saw St. Norbert break the deadlock with three unanswered goals. The first came on a shorthanded opportunity, followed by a power-play goal that extended the Green Knights' lead.
Desperate to mount a comeback, the Falcons pulled Rosek for an extra attacker, but St. Norbert sealed the game with an empty-net goal, capitalizing on a loose puck and sending a long shot into the open net for the final 3-0 scoreline.
In the loss, freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.) led the Falcons with four shots on goal, while sophomore Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) won 10 of his 17 faceoff opportunities. Rosek stood tall in goal, finishing with 45 saves in a valiant effort.
The Falcons will look to bounce back next weekend when they face the Aurora Spartans.
