Falcons Defeat Green Knights, 3-2

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team defeated St. Norbert, 3-2, on a sunny Saturday afternoon. With three games left in the regular season, the Falcons improve to 7-6-3 on the season and 6-3 in NACC play.

This was a revenge win for the squad. Last year, the Falcons lost to the Knights in penalty kicks in the first round of the NACC tournament.

Junior Lanie Czerkies (Joliet, Ill.) had a career-best day on the pitch. Czerkies scored the first two Falcon goals, both unassisted. The junior also finished with five shots, all being on goal.

The Knights responded with a goal of their own in between Czerkies two goals, leading the game to be 2-1 at halftime. The Falcons came out from halftime to increase their lead. Sophomore Jacey Read (Carbondale, Wis.) found the back of the net with some assistance from senior Autumn Snow (Cedarburg, Wis.).  St. Norbert score in the final 30 second of the game but the two-goal lead was too much for them to overcome.

The Falcons finished with 23 shots, 14 being on goal. Freshman Koffy'e Chapple (Oakland, Calif. Had five shots, three being on goal. Snow had four shots, all on goal.

The CUW defense held strong only allowing five shots from SNC. Junior goalie Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.) collected one save.

The Falcons look towards a tough match-up against Illinois Tech for a midweek contest at home. The Scarlet Hawks are undefeated in conference play and has already earned a spot in the conference tournament. CUW, who sits in fifth in the NACC, looks to clinch their spot in the tournament at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
