OBERLIN, Ohio – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team played its second-straight double overtime contest of the week on Friday night at Oberlin. The Yeowomen took a 1-0 victory to send the Falcons to 4-3 on the year.
The Falcons had a good look on a corner in the third minute but could not connect on the final pass.
In the seventh minute, freshman Kaitlin Baylen (Antioch, Ill.) had the first shot of the game.
The Falcons had some quality chances on a late penalty corner in the first quarter that resulted in shots for sophomore Naomi Little (Hartland, Wis.) and senior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.).
Neither team recorded a shot in the second quarter and the teams went into halftime tied at zero.
Oberlin controlled a majority of the possession late in the third quarter and had two penalty corners in the final minute, but junior Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) collected a flurry of saves to keep the game scoreless.
Concordia applied some late pressure and had two penalty corners in the final minute, but the Falcons went to overtime for the second time in the week.
This is the second time in program history that the Falcons played back-to-back overtime contests. The other being on September of 2019 at Wittenberg and DePauw.
The Falcons had the first shot of overtime that whistled wide of the cage for sophomore Anna Washburn (Suffield, Conn.).
Junior Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.) then had a shot that was blocked.
The Blue and White were able to fight off a green card and stopped a breakaway opportunity.
Junior Leah Mouganis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was surrounded late in the first overtime session, but was able to get a shot off.
CUW tried to get one more look in the first overtime in the final seconds, but it was not meant to be.
The Yeowomen earned a penalty corner to start the second overtime and scored on a third tip.
The Falcons held a 7-5 advantage in shots on Friday night and were led by Kaitlin Baylen with two.
Parks Cawthray finished with three saves on the evening.
The Falcons close their Ohio road trip on Sunday when they travel to Granville and face the Big Red of Denison.
