MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team broke a four-game losing streak after shutting out Concordia Chicago, 3-0. The Falcons improve to 5-5-3, and 4-2-0 in conference play.
This was the second straight year this matchup was held at Fitting Field and sophomore
Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) has had the game winning goal in both. Read got to the net quickly scoring in the 14th minute of the game, this was the sophomore's fourth goal of the year. The assist was credited to freshman
Koffy'e Chappel (Oakland, Calif.), this was her second of the season.
Later in the first half, senior
Autumn Snow (Cedarburg, Wis.) snagged her second goal of the year. Snow was able to break away from Concordia Chicago's defense for an unassisted goal to give CUW the two-goal advantage.
In the second half, a Cougars player was called for a handball in the box, a penalty kick was awarded to the Falcons. This was the team's second penalty kick of the season. Freshman
Gabbie Hetzel (Germantown, Wis.) stepped up to take it. Hetzel was able to trick the CUC goalie and score her first goal of her collegiate career.
The Falcons attempted 18 shots today, 14 of those on goal. Read led the team with four, all being on goal. Sophomore
Hailey Whittow (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), senior
Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.), and Snow all had three shots during the contest.
In goal for the Falcons was junior
Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.). Claussner faced 14 shots from the visitors and collected five saves.
CUW will travel south to play MSOE on Saturday. The two teams are set to battle at Viets Field at 1 p.m.
