MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team crushed Concordia Moorhead on Saturday afternoon to level the weekend series. The Falcons soared to a 6-1 victory to even the Concordia Cup series at 1-1-0.
Junior Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) scored the lone goal of the first period on the power play off the goalie's mask before the net went flying off with the pass coming from freshman Easton Penna (Coboconk, Ontario).
Freshman Matt Green (Barrie, Ontario) capitalized on a costly turnover right in front of the net and buried the puck in the back of the cage.
Alex Ochitwa struck again at the 16:18 mark when we was lurking at the far post off a pass from senior Mason Ausmus (Saline, Mich.) from the blue line.
Two minute later, junior Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario) scored on a breakaway off passes from sophomore Connor Van Wheelie (Mississauga, Ontario) and Alex Ochitwa.
The Cobbers scored their lone goal in the third period on the power play.
Alex Ochitwa finished off the hat trick with an empty-net goal off a pass from Connor Van Wheelie.
Matt Green closed the scoring with a power-play goal with a top-shelf shot off a handoff from senior Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.).
The Falcons held a 31-24 advantage in shots on Saturday. Alex Ochitwa led the flock with six shots.
Junior Blake Hazelton (Lake Orion, Mich.) earned the victory with 23 saves against the Cobbers.
With the series tied, a shootout was used to determine the winner of the Concordia Cup.
Alex Ochitwa scored in the third round of the shootout, but Moorhead retained the cup with a 2-1 shootout victory.
The Falcons return home on Friday for the home and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opener against Trine.
