Men's Hockey Defeats MSOE, 5-2, in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's ice hockey team defeated MSOE, 5-3, on the road. This is the first game in the annual battle between the two conference rivals for the Lake Michigan Cup. The Falcons are now 2-3 this season and 1-2 in NCHA play.

The Raiders scored the first two goals of the game both in the first period. These would become their only goals of the game as the Falcons' offense turned up the jets.

The first goal for CUW came from senior Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) on a power play. This is the seniors second goal of the season; he was assisted by sophomores Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ont.) and Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.).

The tying goal came just five minutes later, this time by freshman Matt Green (Barrie, Ontario). After a miss pass by the Raiders, sophomore Evan Forrest (Spruce Grove, Alta.) and freshman Easton Penna (Coboconk, Ontario) were able to connect with Green to take a shot on the goal.

During the 10-minute mark in the third, the Royal Blue and Gray found the back of the net twice. First Van Weelie scored at 10:38, with an assist from junior Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.). The second at 10:32, was scored by Green. With assists from freshman Cooper Brown (Airdrie, Alberta) and Forrest, Green got his second goal of the night.

Van Weelie also scored another goal with less than four minutes left in the game. This time the sophomore was assisted by freshman Kieran Ronan (New Hartford, N.Y.).

In goal for the Falcons was sophomore Cameron Hrdlicka (Calgary, Alta.). In only his second appearance this season, Hrdlicka had 22 saves and a save percentage of .917. He is now 1-1 on the season.

CUW also had an advantage at the face-off circle, winning 39 of 67. Sophomore Levi Carter (Keremeos, B.C) led the charge going 11-9.
