Verhagen’s Late Layup Lifts Falcons Past Westminster

ST. LOUIS – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team defeated Westminster (Mo.) on Sunday in their final game of the Webster Classic. Hosted by Webster University, the Falcons leave the Gateway to the West with a 2–3 record on the season.

Westminster controlled the early minutes, but Concordia Wisconsin rallied late. Trailing in the final four minutes, the Falcons stormed back to tie the game at 78, keeping the deficit within a single possession down the stretch.

With 24 seconds remaining and the game knotted at 85, CUW brought the ball the length of the court. The Falcons executed a set play that freed junior Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) for a drive to the basket, converting a go-ahead layup with three seconds left.

After timeouts by both teams, Westminster's last-second three-point attempt missed, securing the win for CUW.

Senior Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) powered the Falcons with his fourth straight double-double, scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in 36 minutes. He shot 9-of-16 from the field and 15-of-20 at the free-throw line.

Verhagen added 26 points, including a 3-of-5 mark from beyond the arc. Junior Javanni Blackman (Milwaukee, Wis.) reached double figures for the first time this season, finishing with 13 points.

The Falcons travel to Marquette, Mich., for an exhibition matchup against NCAA Division II Northern Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. ET at Vandament Arena.
