MEQUON, Wis. – For the second-straight Saturday night, a shootout was needed to determine the holder for a rivalry trophy and once again, the Falcons came out on top. Lake Forest tied the season series with a 6-2 victory on Saturday night, but the Falcons hold onto the Border Battle Cup with a 1-0 shootout victory.
The Foresters started the scoring with a turnover in front of the CUW net in the first period.
Lake Forest added to the lead in the second period just as a CUW killed off a penalty.
The Falcons jumped on the scoreboard on the power play when sophomore Levi Carter (Keremeos, British Colombia) tipped in a senior Derek Humpreys (Spokane, Wash,) shot at the far post off a secondary assist to sophomore Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ontario).
Seven minutes later, junior Elowan Orme-Lynch (Paris, France) tied the game on a putback from a junior Sawyer Wirsing (Arundel, Maine) shot and Derek Humphreys secondary assist.
Lake Forest forced a shootout after scoring the final four goals of the contest.
Junior Blake Hazelton (Lake Orion, Mich.) did not allow a goal in his 14 minutes of play or in the shootout on Saturday and junior Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, British Columbia) scored on the first shootout goal.
Concordia Wisconsin has now won the Border Battle Cup three years in a row, the longest streak in program history.
The Falcons will rest up and host Dubuque to open December.
