Game Recap: ACHA Men's Hockey |

ACHA Takes Series Over MSU-Denver With 8-3 Victory

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's ACHA D2 ice hockey team defeated MSU-Denver, 8-3, to take the series. The Falcons improve their win streak to five and are now 12-6 on the year.

Despite the score, CUW struggled on the ice, giving the Roadrunners nine power plays. All three of the MSU-Denver's goals came on a Falcon penalty. Although, the Roadrunners did have their time in the penalty box. Concordia Wisconsin went five-for-five on their powerplays.

The first period was neck and neck between the two teams, with only the visiting Roadrunners scoring in the first 10 minutes.

With 51 seconds in the first, a penalty was called on MSU-Denver which fallowed into the second. After the first intermission the Falcons returned to the ice with new energy and determination. Sophomore Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.) found the back of the net first just 1:10 into the game. Graduate students Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) completed a set of passes that allowed Murano to send a slap shot from the blue-line into the top left corner of the net

Junior Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) was credited with the second, on the assist was senior McCarthy Clark (Chicago, Wis.) at 15:52 minute mark. Less than two minutes later Emme earned an assist on a Wilderman goal. MSU-Denver was able to grab two more goals in the second, tying the game at three each.

The Royal Blue and Grey took the ice for the final 20 minutes ready to repeat the same score as the day prior. They found the momentum they used in yesterday's, 7-3, win, and scored five unanswered goals in the third. Freshman Caden Buenz (Elmhurst, Ill.) scored his fourth goal of his short career just over a minute into the third. Emme was tagged with the assist, his second of the night.

Graduate student Nolan Judge (Glendale, Ariz.) scored his second goal this season, unassisted, exactly four minutes after Buenz. The sixth goal of the night was the first even-strength goal on the game. Cassel set up the puck for Wilderman to shoot it in.

The final two goals of the night came from Emme and Wilderman. Judge earned the assist in Emme's second goal of the night. Wilderman earned a hat trick with the final goal of night with some help from sophomore Rocco Cicirello with only 57 second remaining in the contest.

Concordia Wisconsin will return to Ozaukee Ice Center on Friday Nov. 14 for the first game of Mequondulac Cup with Marian. The Falcons look to bring back the cup to Mequon, after falling to the Sabers in both games last year. Puck drop is slated for 2:45 p.m.
