Penalties Doom Men’s Hockey in Minnesota

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team closed the calendar on 2025 on Sunday afternoon at Gustavus Adolphus. The Falcons close the first half of the year at 5-7-0 after the 2-3 loss to the Golden Gusties.

The Falcons peppered the Gustavus net with 10 shots in the first period, but the teams skated off the ice tied at zero after 20 minutes.

The Golden Gusties struck first on Sunday with a power-play goal hallway through the contest.

Four minutes later, Gustavus Adolphus scored on the power play once again.

Senior Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) was able to beat the Gustavus goaltender to covering the puck as he cut the lead in half off a rebound of a sophomore Levi Carter (Keremeos, British Columbia) shot and a secondary assist to senior Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.).

Humphreys scored again halfway through the third period on the power play off crisp passes from junior Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario) and sophomore Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ontario).

The Falcons threated late and had a 6-on-4 advantage for the final seven seconds but had the final shot on evening blocked.

Junior Blake Hazelton (Lake Orion, Mich.) finished with 15 saves on Sunday.

Concordia held a 24-18 advantage in shots against Gustavus. Sophomore Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ontario) led the contest with four shots.

Levi Carter won nine of his 12 faceoffs on Sunday.

The Falcons return to action on Jan. 2 against Hamline.
