STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team battled the undefeated Wisconsin–Stevens Point Pointers in front of a packed house on Thursday afternoon, but a late third-quarter surge propelled the Pointers to a 61-48 victory.
Wisconsin–Stevens Point opened the contest with a 7-0 run over the first three minutes, but Concordia quickly responded. The Falcons erased the early deficit with a 10-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from junior Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) with 4:32 remaining in the first quarter.
A buzzer-beating jump shot from freshman Amya Pluess (Burlington, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 16-14 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
Concordia stretched its lead to seven points in the second quarter behind baskets from freshman Isabella Gunderson (Waukesha, Wis.) and junior Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.). The Falcons maintained their edge and carried a 28-25 lead into halftime.
The Pointers opened the second half with a 6-0 run to reclaim a 31-30 lead, but Concordia answered back. Back-to-back baskets from sophomore Kristin Wentling (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Alexa Schwartz (Treynor, Iowa) pushed the Falcons back in front, 38-33.
Wisconsin–Stevens Point closed the third quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 44-38 lead into the final period.
Concordia trimmed the deficit to six early in the fourth quarter, but the Pointers held firm down the stretch to remain unbeaten.
The Falcons showcased a balanced offensive effort, with seven players scoring. Wentling led the way with 10 points, while Butterbrodt paced the team with three assists. Schwartz and junior Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) shared the team lead with five rebounds apiece, and Schwartz added two blocks.
Concordia closes out the 2025 calendar year in Iowa, opening play at the Wartburg Holiday Tournament against Simpson on Dec. 29 before facing Wartburg on Dec. 30.
