The Clock Hits Midnight For Cougars’ Comeback

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA men's hockey team hosted the Cougars of Sault College for a late-night battle on Friday, holding off a furious third-period push to secure a 4–3 victory.

Sault College struck first, finding the net just four minutes into the contest. Concordia responded quickly, as senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) buried a slot-area chance off feeds from senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) and junior Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.).

Six minutes later, Emme picked up a loose puck at the far blue line, blazing down the ice to give the Falcons a 2–1 advantage. He wasn't done yet—midway through the second period, Emme struck again on a breakaway, set up by a stretch pass from Cassel.

Cassel added a goal of his own late in the frame, redirecting a shot from sophomore Tyler Reinke (Franklin, Wis.) on the power play, with Emme collecting his third point on the secondary assist.

The Cougars clawed back with two quick goals early in the third period, then continued to pressure throughout the final 20 minutes. Sault finished the night with a 6-on-4 advantage following a late power play, but senior goaltender Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) stood tall, making 30 saves to preserve the win. Shots finished even at 33–33.

Friday also marked the Falcons' annual partnership with the CK Choose Kindness organization for Mental Health Awareness Night.

Concordia will look to complete the sweep on Saturday when the series resumes against the Cougars.
