ACHA's Season Ends in Regionals

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin ACHA hockey team's season came to an unfortunate end in the first round of the Central Regional Tournament, as they fell 6-3 to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

With the loss, the Falcons conclude their season with a strong 23-13-0 record, marking their third consecutive season with 20+ wins.

Iowa jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first period, with senior Brandon Ballweg (Woodbridge, Va.) scoring the Falcons' lone goal, assisted by freshman Nolan O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.). Despite the deficit, the Falcons showed resilience in the second period, outscoring Iowa 2-1. However, they still trailed 4-3 heading into the final frame.

Senior Nolan Judge (Glendale, Ariz.) pulled the Falcons within one goal in the second period after a precise passing play involving sophomore Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) and senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.). Unfortunately, Iowa answered quickly, maintaining their two-goal advantage.

With 3:11 remaining in the second, senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) scored, with Judge and Emme providing the assists. Despite a strong effort in the third period, the Falcons couldn't close the gap, as Iowa sealed the victory, holding CUW scoreless and securing the 6-3 win.

Junior goaltender Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) recorded 21 saves in the loss, while Emme led the Falcons with two assists, totaling two points.

The CUW Athletics program extends its heartfelt thanks to the seniors for their dedication and contributions throughout the season. The senior class includes Ballweg, Cassel, Nick Roberts (Ding Dong, Texas), Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.), Judge, Malek, Steven Delikat (Oak Creek, Wis.), and Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.).

The Falcons will return to the ice next fall, eager to build on this strong season and continue their pursuit of excellence.
