ACHA Hockey Advances to Hap Cup Semifinals

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA Hockey team opened the Hap Cup Playoffs on Friday morning in the quarterfinal round against the DePaul. The Falcons cruised to a 4-1 victory to advance to the Hap Cup Semifinals and improve to 23-11 on the year.

The Falcons scored in the final minute of the first period with a shorthanded goal from junior Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.) off a toss from senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) and a secondary assist credited to senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.)

The only even-strength goal for the Birds came in the second period when Tommy Cassel lit the lamp off passes from Dominic Murano and sophomore Michael Sobczak (Wood Dale, Ill.).

CUW scored again on the penalty kill in the second period on a two-on-one breakaway with Tommy Cassel netting his second goal off a pass from Rex Staudacher.

Concordia scored in the final second of the second period on the power play when Dominic Murano tipped in the puck from the far side of the net off a pass from senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and a secondary assist to Rex Staudacher.

DePaul scored the lone goal of the third period on a rebound.

Junior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) brought in the victory in the net.

The Falcons will play Purdue Northwest on Saturday afternoon.

Marian will play Marquette in the second semifinal on Saturday.
