MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team opened the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons fell to 1-6 with a 15-5 loss to Aurora.
The Spartans struck first on Wednesday with a goal in the first minute of the contest.
A minute later, senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.) cut to the net and tied the game.
The Black and Blue reclaimed the lead a minute later.
Senior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) stole the ball back a minute later, deep in the Aurora zone, and tied the game.
The Falcons claimed the lead 30 seconds later when Katelyn Cardinale scored on a backhand shot off a pass from sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.).
The Spartans tied the game 79 seconds later with a free-position goal.
The Falcons charged down the field, and junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) found an open Kami McCardle streaking down towards the cage. McCardle gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
The McCardle goal gave the previous NACC Defensive Player of the Week a seat on the bench.
The Spartans responded by scoring the next seven goals.
The Falcons took advantage of an Aurora card when Carolyn Bourgeault found the back of the net off a pass from Katelyn Cardinale.
The Black and Blue scored the final five goals of the contest.
Sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) finished with a season-high 15 saves against the Spartans. Cawthray also tied the highwater mark of the season in save percentage at 50.0.
Aurora held a 39-22 advantage in shots on Wednesday. Katelyn Cardinale led the flock with 10 shots.
The trio of Natalie Mackrell, senior Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.) all gobbled up three ground balls each.
Katelyn Cardinale led the contest with six draw controls.
Ava Karlov and Emily Robertson both frustrated Aurora with four caused turnovers.
The Falcons look to build on the positives from Wednesday and get back in the win column on Saturday against Cornell.
