MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's lacrosse team once again protected home turf on Saturday with a 19-3 victory over Cornell. The Falcons improved to 3-6 on the year and to 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Falcons struck first on Saturday with a goal from senior Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.) off a pass from senior Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.).
Three minutes later, sophomore Bryce Petersen (Waukesha, Wis.) scored off an assist from Caleb Ruger.
Freshman Jackson Knutson (Roseville, Minn.) added to the lead two minutes later.
The Rams scored the final goal of the frame to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes.
The second quarter was all Concordia on Saturday. The Falcons outscored Cornell, 10-0.
The Falcons started with goals from Jackson Knutson, Bryce Petersen and sophomore Tyler Husby (Eagan, Minn.).
Caleb Ruger scored the next four goals of the contest.
CUW had goals from senior Gio Nowotarski (Reading, Pa.), senior Orion Danou (Janesville, Wis.) and Bryce Petersen in the final four minutes of the first half.
Bryce Petersen had the first goal of the third quarter off a pass from Tyler Husby.
Cornell snapped the 11-0 run with a man-up goal.
Bryce Petersen tallied the next two goals of the game with Max Esposito and senior Brett Dowler (Tyrone, Ga.) adding the assists.
Freshman Carter Lyons (Grand Rapids, Mich.) joined the scoring party with a goal with 1:29 left in the quarter for his first collegiate goal from an assist from senior John Frangella (Chicago, Ill.).
Senior Hans Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) netted a goal 62 seconds into the fourth quarter.
After Cornell scored its third goal. Freshman Will Downs (Northfield, Minn.) finished the scoring a minute later off a senior Chase Drexler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) assist.
Sophomore Travis Marquardt (Brookfield, Wis.) earned the victory in the net with five saves. Freshman Nolan O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.) had eight saves in the second half.
Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D) dominated the faceoff circle again, winning 13 of his 14 faceoffs. Junior Frank Trewyn (Mukwonago, Wis.) won six of his 11.
Senior Cooper Fellows (De Pere, Wis.) collected six ground balls to lead the game.
The Falcons caused 18 turnovers in the victory.
