MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball team rode a rollercoaster of emotions on Saturday afternoon in a five-set thriller against Edgewood. The Falcons fell to 6-15 on the year and 4-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 15-25, 25-12, 25-23, 21-25, 14-16 loss.
The match had a total of 34 ties and 14 different lead changes.
The Eagles used a 7-1 run to take a 12-7 lead in the first set. The Falcons trimmed the deficit to 13-16, but that is the closest they got, as Edgewood claimed the first set at 25-12.
The Falcons flipped the script in the second set. After trailing 6-7, the Falcons won the next four points and never looked back. The serve of junior Chase Ammons (Elm Grove, Wis.) gave the Eagles issues and the set ended on a 9-0 for the Falcons.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle with eight ties. With the score tied at 17, the Falcons earned some separation to elevate the lead to 20-17. Edgewood fought back and tied the set at 22 and 23. A kill from senior Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) gave the Falcons a set point and a service ace from senior Kellen Gonzales (Milwaukee, Wis.) ended the set at 25-23.
The fourth set saw the Eagles stay alive with a late rally. Edgewood broke a 17-17 tie and never looked back.
Edgewood took an early 5-4 lead in the fifth set, but the Falcons kept it close and earned a match point with a block from senior Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) at 14-13. The Eagles won the next three points to win the match.
Freshman Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.) led the Falcons with 14 kills in the match, with Kellen Gonzales finishing with 10 kills.
Logan Kebisek had 35 assists against the Eagles.
Junior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) led the flock with 16 digs and Lucas Beres had three blocks.
The Falcons look to bounce back on Wednesday night at Benedictine.
