Falcons Fly to Second Place Finish at Beloit Relays

BELOIT, Wis. The Concordia University Wisconsin women's track and field team turned in a strong showing at the Beloit Relays on Saturday, securing a second-place finish with 179 total points.

The Falcons excelled in the jumps, where they racked up 65 points. Freshman Amiyah Jackson (Beaver Dam, Wis.) led the triple jump with a winning leap of 11.12 meters. Junior Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) added a fifth-place finish, reaching 10.39 meters.

In the long jump, senior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) earned silver with a leap of 4.69 meters. Freshman Natiya Ballard (Stoughton, Wis.) placed fifth at 4.85 meters. Freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) and senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) rounded out the scoring in seventh and eighth with jumps of 4.78 and 4.54 meters, respectively.

The high jump proved to be CUW's most dominant event. Read claimed the top spot with a clearance of 1.58 meters, followed by sophomore Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) in second at 1.53 meters. Jackson contributed again, finishing fourth at 1.43 meters, while senior Ashley Burk (Watertown, Wis.) tied for sixth at 1.38 meters.

In the pole vault, Kotula tied for first with a mark of 3.06 meters, and sophomore Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.) cleared 2.91 meters to finish fifth.

The Falcons added 48 points in the throwing events. In the shot put, CUW locked down fifth through eighth place. Sophomore Paige Schreiber (Mukwonago, Wis.) led the group with a mark of 10.12 meters. Senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) followed in sixth at 9.96 meters, sophomore Morgan Feuker (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) took seventh at 9.89 meters, and freshman Madysen Gonzagowski (Madison, Wis.) claimed eighth at 9.73 meters.

In the javelin, Maas led the team with a second-place finish after a throw of 34.91 meters. Schreiber added a fourth-place finish with a mark of 29.73 meters.

Junior Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) delivered a standout performance in the discus, placing second with a throw of 36.84 meters. Maas earned more points with a seventh-place finish at 29.44 meters, and sophomore Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.) placed eighth with a throw of 28.25 meters.

Ramaker also led CUW in the hammer throw, landing a mark of 35.24 meters. Feuker, Maas, and freshman Makenna Herbrand (Fond du Lac, Wis.) placed fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, contributing more valuable team points.

The hurdles unit brought in 25 points. Sophomore Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) took second in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:09.70. CUW impressed in the 100-meter hurdles as well, with Hielscher taking the win in 15.51 seconds. Eilertson placed fourth at 16.37 seconds, and sophomore Nina Alft (Kimberly, Wis.) took seventh at 18.80 seconds.

The distance crew added 23 points. Junior Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) claimed first in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:57.86. In the 10,000-meter, sophomore Abigail Lange (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) earned silver with a time of 43:09.87.

Sprints and relays combined for 18 points. Sophomore Kylee Camble (Cudahy, Wis.) placed fourth in the 800-meter at 2:34.05. In the 100-meter dash, Moore sprinted to second place in 12.86 seconds.

CUW closed the meet on a high note, taking first place in the 4x100-meter relay. The team of Hielscher, Read, Ballard, and Moore posted a winning time of 49.55 seconds.

The Falcons will return to action next Thursday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
