Women's Track & Field Races at WLC

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - In a rare Thursday appearance, the CUW Falcons made the most of their time at the WLC Green and White Invite, delivering a series of standout performances across the board. Although team scores were not recorded, the Falcons still left their mark with numerous top finishes.

Headlining the day was the 4x100-meter relay team of senior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.), freshmen Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) and Natiya Ballard (Stoughton, Wis.), and senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.). The quartet raced to a first-place finish with a time of 49.81 seconds.

Hielscher also made an impact in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.33 seconds to take second place, while sophomore Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) followed closely behind in fourth with a time of 16.16.

Freshman Jacey Read had a breakout day of her own, sprinting to first place in both the 100-meter dash (12.43) and the 200-meter dash, where she topped a pair of NCAA Division I athletes from UW-Milwaukee. Her strong showing continued in the high jump, where she was one of three competitors to tie for first, all clearing the 1.53-meter bar.

In the field events, junior Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) captured gold in the pole vault with a height of 3.15 meters, while sophomore Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.) tied for second at 3.00 meters.

Sophomore Paige Schreiber (Mukwonago, Wis.) led CUW in the shot put with a throw of 10.32 meters. Junior Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) added a sixth-place finish in the discus, tossing 34.50 meters.

Hielscher returned to the podium with a first-place finish in the javelin (37.37 meters), while Schreiber added a fourth-place mark of 26.28 meters.

On the track, junior Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) clocked 2:24.41 in the 800-meter, earning third overall and finishing as the top Division III runner in the event.

While part of the team competed at Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, several Falcons are set to continue their weekend action tomorrow at the Augustana Meet of Champions.
