MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team brought out the brooms against Benedictine on Tuesday. Two career records fell as the Falcons took the series with 4-2 and 10-4 victories. The sweep sends the Falcons to 19-9 on the year and to 10-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Benedictine struck first with a two-run home run.
The Falcons had their first runner in scoring position in the fifth inning when sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) was walked and senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) reached second base.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) had a clutch single in the sixth inning into the gap in left center field that scored sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) from second base.
The Falcons entered the bottom of the seventh inning needing a run to tie the game.
Junior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) started the inning with a leadoff walk.
Another walk to Emma Shellstrom put junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.) into scoring position.
Senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) then ended the game with a three-run home run over the fence in left field.
The home run broke the program record for career RBI that was held by Claudia Utz. Utz had 148 RBI from 2020 to 2024.
Sophomore Kylie Van de Loo (Menasha, Wis.) picked up the victory and did not allow a hit in the seventh inning. Emma Shellstrom had a strikeout in the start.
The Eagles were first on the scoreboard again in game two with a run in the first inning.
In her first at bat after breaking the RBI record, Jess Pozezinski broke the record for career doubles in the first inning.
Emily Bennin had 47 career doubles from 2007 to 2010.
Megan Bloyer gave the Falcons the lead with a three-run home run over the fence in left field in the first inning that scored Jess Pozezinski and Jenna Shadoski.
The Eagles reclaimed the lead with three runs in the second inning.
Jenna Shadoski tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when Jenna Shadoski had a shot to the pitcher that plated sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.).
The Falcons broke the game open with six runs in the third inning.
Maggie Plahmer sent a ball to shortstop on a play where everyone was safe and Kaitlyn Way scored.
Jenna Lischka then smashed a single with the left side of the infield that scored Adrianna Martinez.
Jess Pozezinski cleared the bases again with another no-doubt home run to left-center field that cleared Jenna Lischka and Maggie Plahmer from the bags.
Kaitlyn Way closed the scoring with a single up the middle that scored freshman Shea McMullen from second base.
Sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) silenced the Eagles and only allowed one hit in her second victory of the year.
Jess Pozezinski had four hits to lead game two.
The Falcons look to add to their winning streak on Friday at Lakeland.
