MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The 2025 season came to a close for the Concordia University Wisconsin women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night, as the Falcons fell to MSOE in their regular season finale, 19-8.
With the loss, CUW finished the year 5-10 overall and 4-5 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, narrowly missing the cut for the NACC Tournament.
MSOE set the tone early, jumping out to an 8-1 lead after the first quarter. CUW's lone goal in the opening frame came from sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.), assisted by senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.).
The Falcons responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Raiders 3-2 to chip away at the deficit. Junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and senior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) each found the back of the net before MSOE tallied two goals to restore a seven-goal lead. Bourgeault closed the half with her second of the night, and CUW entered the break trailing 10-4.
The third quarter featured balanced play from both sides. Bourgeault completed her hat trick during the frame, while freshman Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) and Mackrell each added goals to keep the Falcons within striking distance, 14-7.
However, MSOE pulled away in the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to secure the 19-8 victory and eliminate CUW from postseason contention.
Bourgeault led the offense with three goals, while Cardinale notched a pair of assists. Paaverud contributed on both ends of the field, scoring once and forcing a team-high four turnovers. In goal, sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ont.) recorded 10 saves and a team-leading six ground balls in a strong effort.
As the season concludes, the CUW Athletic Department would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the 2025 senior class which includes Ava Karlov, Kami McCardle, Juliana Beadle, and Natalie Mackrell for their leadership, dedication, and commitment to Falcons lacrosse.
