MILWAUKEE, Wis. – It was all Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee. The Concordia Wisconsin softball team brought out the brooms and swept Alverno to the tune of 9-2 and 13-3 victories. The Falcons soar to 23-9 on the season and stay in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title race at 14-4.
The Falcons tacked on four runs in the first inning in game one.
Sophomore Jenna Shadoski started the scoring with a shot to second base that scored senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.)
Senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then singled to right field to land senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) on home plate.
Junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.) then crushed a double down the left-field line with the bases loaded and scored Jasmine Freeze and junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.).
In the second inning, Nora Statz smacked a double to center field that scored Megan Bloyer.
Alverno scored in the bottom half of the inning with a home run.
CUW scored twice in the third inning.
Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) landed a double into the gap in right-center field that allowed Taylor Jacobson to score. Jenna Shadoski then crushed the ball into the same gap to send in Emma Shellstrom.
The Inferno struck again with a run in the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning Jenna Shadoski singled through the left side of the infield to score Jess Pozezinski, and Megan Bloyer then scored Shadoski on a single down the right-field line.
Emma Shellstrom earned her ninth victory of the year and had five strikeouts.
Sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) pitched the final two innings and only allowed one hit and had two strikeouts.
The Falcons spoiled any hope for joy on senior day with four runs in the first inning of game two.
Megan Bloyer started the scoring with a double to left field to score Jess Pozezinski.
Nora Statz then doubled into right-center field to score Megan Blower and Jenna Shadoski.
A single for junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) up the middle scored Statz.
Alverno cut the Concordia lead in half in the second inning.
Senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) earned the two runs back in the third inning with a double to centerfield that scored Rylie DuVal and Nora Statz.
Alverno added another run to the scoreboard in the third inning.
The Birds beat up Alverno with seven runs in the seventh inning.
Nora Statz started the spree with a single to right field to land Jess Pozezinski on home plate.
A double for Rylie Duval into left-center field scored Nora Statz and Jenna Shadoski.
Adrianna Martinez added to the lead with a single up the middle to send in Rylie DuVal.
Junior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) smashed a single to score Adrianna Martinez and sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.).
Sophomore Katherine Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) had her first career RBI with a shot to shortstop that scored Maggie Plahmer.
Jasmine Freeze had a strikeout in the start.
Sophomore Kylie Van de Loo (Menasha, Wis.) earned her fourth victory of the year with three strikeouts and Kylie Strupp didn't allow a hit or a walk in the seventh inning.
Nora Statz led the game with three hits.
The Falcons will honor the senior class on Sunday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
