Softball Rolls Against Rockford

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team put together two more victories in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) standings on Saturday afternoon against Rockford. The Falcons rolled past the Regents with 9-0 and 7-2 victories. The Saturday sweep sends CUW to 14-6 on the year and 5-1 in NACC contests.

The Falcons struck early and often in game one. and scored five runs in the first inning.

Senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) started the game with a leadoff home run over the fence in left field.

Senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then sent the ball over the fence in right-center field to also score junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.).

Sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) singled to first base that allowed junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) to score.

Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) continued the scoring with a shot to second base that plated junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.).

In the second inning, Rylie DuVal smacked the ball to deep center field for a sacrifice fly that scored Nora Statz.

Kaitlyn Way had a single up the middle that allowed Jasmine Freeze and Megan Bloyer to score.

The scoring finished in the fourth inning when Megan Bloyer crushed the ball out of the park in center field.

Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) roped up the Regents in the circle. She only allowed one hit in her sixth victory of the season and had two strikeouts.

The Falcons only took 60 minutes to claim the victory.

With the victory, Megan Aliverti claimed the program record for most wins in the first season as a head coach. Katie Petersen had 12 wins in the 1999 season.  

Kaitlyn Way and Jess Pozezinski both had two hits in game one.

The Falcons drew first blood in game two with a run in the second inning.

Sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) grounded out to third base, but Taylor Jacobson showed off her speed and safely crossed home plate.

The Regents tied the game in the third inning with their first run of the day.

The Falcons took the run back in the bottom half of the inning with a home run to left field for Megan Bloyer.

Junior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) added to the lead with a missel to third base that senior KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.) scored on.

Jess Pozezinski extended the lead in the fourth inning when she sprinted home on a wild pitch.

Rockford added another run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Jenna Shadoski struck again in the fifth inning with her first career home run with a blast down the left-field line.

The Saturday scoring ended in the sixth inning when senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) smacked the ball down the right-field line to plate Jasmine Freeze and Megan Bloyer.

Jasmine Freeze earned her fourth victory of the season and had four strikeouts in the start.

Sophomore Kylie Van de Loo (Menasha, Wis.) froze the Regents with only two hits and three strikeouts. Sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) earned the final out of the game.

Megan Bloyer led the contest with three hits.

The Falcons close a busy stretch of games on Sunday against St. Norbert.
