MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team elevated its winning streak to nine games after a pair of run-rule victories over St. Norbert on Sunday. The Falcons completed the six-game homestand with 8-0 and 11-3 victories to improve to 16-6 on the season and 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) got the ball rolling offensively with two outs in the second inning. She smashed the ball into the gap in right-center field that cleared the bases of sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) from third base and sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) from first base.
A single to center field for junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) then scored Pozezinski.
In the third inning, Jenna Lischka had a bases-clearing single that fell into center field and scored junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.), junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.), and senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.).
A throwing error in the fifth inning scored Rylie DuVal and senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.).
Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) grinded the Green Knights down in the circle with three strikeouts and no walks and only three hits in her seventh win of the season.
The three-RBI performance was a career-best for Jenna Lischka.
Megan Bloyer and Jenna Shadoski both had two hits in game one.
The Green Knights took an early lead in the second inning with a well-placed ball into the gap in right-center field to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Falcons quickly flipped the momentum with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Jenna Shadoski smacked the ball to the fence in right field just out of the reach of the colliding outfielders and showed off her speed with a bases-clearing triple that scored Jasmine Freeze, senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.).
Jess Pozezinski then destroyed the ball over the fence in center field to add two more runs onto the scoreboard.
The Green Knights cut into the Concordia lead with a ball called fair that rolled down the right-field line and scored two runs.
In the bottom half of the inning, Maggie Plahmer pounced on a ball and singled to center field that scored Rylie DuVal from second base.
In the fourth inning, Rylie Duval knocked a single through the left side of the infield that plated Jess Pozezinski from second base.
The Birds brought in four more runs in the sixth inning to force the run rule once again.
After Nora Statz started the inning with a single to right field, Megan Bloyer brought her home with a home run to left-center field. The home run extended her hitting streak to 13 games.
Senior KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.) smacked the ball up the middle to score junior Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.) from second base.
A single for sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) ended the game as Adrianna Martinez safely stepped on home plate.
Jess Pozezinski led the game with three hits.
The Green Knights tried to run on Megan Bloyer, but the senior catcher gunned down the lone stolen base attempt.
In the circle, sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) earned the start and finished with two strikeouts. Jasmine Freeze silenced St. Norbert and earned the victory and striking out five batters and only one hit. She struck out the first two batters she faced to end the third inning. Emma Shellstrom came in for the final inning and had a strikeout.
The three-RBI performance was a career-high for Jenna Shadoski.
The Falcons will rest up and travel to Aurora for another key NACC battle on Saturday.
