2024–25 Moments of the Year (No. 1): Ainara Sainz de Rozas Delivers One of the Greatest Seasons in CUW History

MEQUON, Wis. – The 2024–25 athletic year was packed with record-setting performances, championships, and unforgettable moments. But few stood taller than the historic junior season from distance standout Ainara Sainz de Rozas (Madrid, Spain), who made school history with three All-American honors and multiple school records across cross country and track & field.

Her journey began in the fall as she led the Falcons to a back-to-back Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) women's cross country title. On November 2nd in Batavia, Illinois, Sainz de Rozas placed second overall at the conference championship with a time of 22:14.98, guiding CUW to a dominant 26-point finish. She followed that performance by qualifying for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, marking CUW's first women's individual national qualifier since 2012.

She continued to shine during the indoor track season, breaking a school record in the 3,000-meter race and qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 5000-meter.. At nationals, she placed seventh in the 5,000-meter, becoming the first All-American in CUW history in that event.

Her dominance carried over into the outdoor season, where she qualified for two more NCAA events — the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. At the national championships, she placed seventh in the 10,000 meters and fourth in the 5,000 meters, earning two additional All-American honors. She was also crowned the NACC champion in the 10,000-meter run earlier in the spring, further showcasing her dominance.

In total, Ainara Sainz de Rozas earned three NCAA All-American finishes, set multiple school records, and helped lead CUW to a conference team championship — all in the same academic year. Her accomplishments have not only redefined what's possible for Falcon distance running, but also stand among the top individual seasons in CUW Athletics history.
